The UK’s Southern Water is putting £4 million toward the relining of more than 500m of sewer in Hampshhire.
The multi-million dollar scheme will involve the team relining more than 500m of sewer at Ashurst Bridge near Totton and will last around three weeks.
The sewer in this area has had several bursts over the last five years, which has resulted in disruption and inconvenience to the local community.
A number of investigations have been carried out to assess the issues and work on a long-term solution to prevent the pressurised sewer.
Southern Water project engineer Jason Masters said utility wants to put an end to the regular disruptions customers have dealt with in recent years.
“We’re delighted to now get started on a solution that will make a real difference. By relining this section of sewer it will provide much-needed resilience to our network and reduce the likelihood of future issues,” he said.
“We know this work over the next three weeks will be disruptive and we’re sorry for impact it is causing – but we know this will make a huge difference in the long-run.”
During this work, dozens of tankers will be in use as flows are managed to reduce the impact on customers.
Further work to alleviate issues in the area will take place over the next two years.
