Watercare’s Queen Street Wastewater Diversion project recently reached a key milestone with the microtunnel boring machine (m-TBM) beginning its 600m journey under Queen Street.
The 1.2m diameter glass-reinforced plastic pipe is being laid in six metre sections using a pipe-jacking method.
Tunnelling will be completed in two drives: first to a shaft at Wellesley Street East, then continuing to the final shaft at Victoria Street East later this year.
In a statement, Watercare said: “congratulations to our team and tunnelling partners on this exciting milestone.”
