Oilserv has announced the successful completion of two critical trenchless engineering feats as part of the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) gas pipeline project, solidifying its role in delivering strategic energy infrastructure for Nigeria’s future.
In a bold advancement in infrastructure delivery, Oilserv, in collaboration with PCE-Lantic, has crossed the River Niger with a 40-inch diameter pipeline over a distance of 1.6km using horizontal directional drilling (HDD).
“This major feat of engineering excellence, done within three months, marks a bold advancement in infrastructure delivery across one of Nigeria’s most challenging terrains,” Oilserv said.
“As a vital link between regions, this achievement paves the way for greater national integration, energy sustainability and economic growth.”
In a second landmark development, Oilserv completed another HDD crossing, this time a 40-inch, 580m section through the Pai River, alongside the installation of a 480m fibre optic communication cable (FOCC) in fractured granite formation. The undertaking required precise engineering, particularly due to the rock-heavy conditions.
“Despite the challenges and difficult terrain, we delivered with precision, safety, and technical excellence,” the company said, adding that the hydrostatic testing and line purging process for this segment has already commenced and is expected to be completed shortly.
The AKK gas pipeline, a national strategic priority, is central to the Nigerian government’s plans to ensure energy security, foster regional connectivity, and stimulate economic growth. Oilserv’s trenchless crossings form a key part of this effort, helping ensure the project meets the mandate set by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC).
