Get ready for an insightful educational experience with the upcoming ISTT Educational Webinar on horizontal directional drill (HDD) design and installation of high-pressure pipelines subjected to large temperature fluctuations.
This live webinar will take place on 12 September 2025, from 2pm-3pm GMT via Zoom, and is open to anyone interested in advanced pipeline engineering.
Industry experts Sebastiaan Maan and Jaap Joosse from BT Engineering B.V. in the Netherlands will lead the session.
They will share their experience with a challenging project involving the recent installation of two parallel HDDs for pipelines that are 500mm in diameter and 1800m long.
These pipelines were designed to withstand pressures up to 80 bar and accommodate temperature changes of up to 70 degrees Celsius. What makes this project particularly complex is that conventional temperature compensation methods like expansion loops were not allowed due to strict right-of-way restrictions.
During the webinar, Maan and Joosse will discuss how they evaluated different solutions by analyzing the effects of borehole collapse, borehole deviation, and sensitivity to temperature fluctuations, ultimately arriving at a well-engineered design.
Sebastiaan Maan, Sector Manager for Cables and Pipelines at BT Engineering, holds a Master’s degree from TU Delft and combines expertise in geotechnical and pipeline engineering. He has successfully led numerous HDD projects both in the Netherlands and internationally.
Jaap Joosse, Senior Geotechnical and Pipeline Engineer, also graduated from TU Delft and has specialized in soil-pipe interaction and pipeline trenching structures.
Registration is open now via the Zoom link, and the live webinar is free for all attendees.
However, archived videos and presentation materials will be accessible only to ISTT members.
Members can also download the presentation files at no cost, while non-members have the option to purchase them on the ISTT website.
