The Crossing Group has announced that the Tunneling Company in Canada has completed a complex microtunnelling project at the Fraser Surrey Terminal.
The twin 147.5m crossing originated from a single launch shaft, accommodating a pipeline between the terminal’s tank farm and offshore trestle abutment.
The parallel tunnels passed beneath multiple railway tracks, and through mixed subsurface conditions featuring sand, silt, clay, and wood debris.
The Crossing Group’s slurry-supported microtunnell boring machines provided continuous support to the tunnel, which ensured ground stability, and protected existing utilities above the tunnelling path.
The horizontal directional drilling and tunnelling company thanked all involved in making a safe and successful micro-tunnel crossing.
